Barclays Monieplan Case Study

The Problem
Mental Health issues can make managing money harder. These mental health issues can be caused by depression, grief, lack of money or when an individual is in debt, unemployment and loss of jobs. All these difficult life experiences can affect individual’s wellbeing and even your sleep. However, Barclays cannot offer medical advice, but they can help people with mental health issues manage their money better.
The Challenge
Create a unique digital experience, service, or tool by utilizing creativity and technology that helps people with vulnerable situations (mental health issues) and closes the gap between money and mental health.
Desired emotional responses of the users:
For people who have mental health issues, they are sometimes sad or feel worried than normal, experience unexpected changes in mood. My Monieplan money management app should be able to make users feel more excited and allow them take rational decisions regarding finances and money management.
User Research
User research began with the creation of an Ishikawa diagram to classify the root causes of users experiencing mental health issues. Four main categories were identified: Personal factor, financial challenge, social media, and education.
